Since it was a Sunday morning, the greater part of the 780 antiaircraft weapons were not kept an eye on. Numerous military faculty were on shore for the end of the week and many others were still snoozing on their boats. Did the U.S. Government think about the assault previously? For what reason were the admonition signs not all the more profoundly explored? The U.S. didn't exact a lot of harm to the Japanese during the assault. The Japanese just lost one smaller person submarine and 29 planes; 20 were kamikaze missions, 2 were mechanical glitches, and just 7 were destroyed. December 8, the leader of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt, tended to Congress and the American individuals. "Yesterday, December 7, a date which will live in disgrace the United States of America was out of nowhere and purposely assaulted by the maritime and flying corps of the Empire of Japanâ⬠¦" Congress announced war on Japan, and the US was hauled into World War II (Thomas 5). The admonition indications of the assault were there, yet weren't explored. The 3 significant admonition signs that the Japanese were going to assault were the "East Wind Rain" message, the unidentified submarine, and the radar signals. Romeo calls himself Fortunes fool. Do you agree Essay Example For Students
Romeo calls himself Fortunes fool. Do you concur? Exposition Romeo and Juliet is a play all the more by and large known for being a romantic tale, investigating how the energy between two individuals can over come the difficulties of political differences between their families. Be that as it may, destiny is without a doubt engaged with their gathering and becoming hopelessly enamored, and is a vital piece of the story. The dramatist, William Shakespeare, makes this clear from the earliest starting point of the play in the melody. He does this to make a feeling of desire from the crowd, which causes us to feel increasingly engaged with the play, as we build up a feeling of tenderness for the two darlings, Romeo and Juliet. The play starts with a tune as a work. Shakespeare purposely decides to sum up the play thusly to light up two of the fundamental subjects that run all through, and to permits the crowd to distinguish unobtrusive subtleties in the exchange later on in the play, which in any case may have gone unnoticed, expanding our comprehension of the emotional incongruity inside it. In customary Greek catastrophes, an individual would describe to the crowd at fitting interims to clarify precisely what was going on. Conversely, a work, beside being a succinct technique for recounting to the story, is characteristically a sonnet dependent on adoration. Thusly, the crowd become mindful that the play is an awful romantic tale. Line six of the piece A couple of star-crossd sweethearts end their life shows how Romeo and Juliets lives are represented by predetermination, as we partner the expression star crossd with space science, and fortune telling, the possibility that they are not in charge of their lives however that they are as of now written in the stars. The redundancy of the word demise in lines eight and nine Doth with their demise, cover their folks strifeThe dreadful section of their passing markd love implement the way that solitary the demise of Romeo and Juliet can stop the quarrel between the two places of Capulet and Montague which is devastating the general public of Verona (the town wherein the play is set). This is expressed again in line eleven Which however their childrens end, nothing could evacuate. The word nothing recommends an irrevocability about the deplorable circumstance of the two sweethearts, and strengthens the truth that there is no elective occasion that could complete thei r families fight. This definitely implies these two kids were destined to pass on. This is a mind boggling and most unjustifiable thought, which Shakespeare uses to drive the crowd to acknowledge the evil idea of the quarrel and that the penance of Romeo and Juliet, albeit troubling, might be important to end it. This makes a feeling of emotional strain. Using Romeo and Juliet as a penance has strict meanings which is based upon in Act 1 scene 5 when Romeo utilizes numerous references to light (which we partner with heavenly attendants) while portraying Juliet. The way that Romeo and Juliet are depicted in such an unadulterated and honest way builds our feeling of misfortune and catastrophe, just as our indignation at the absence of control that they have on their activities. Shakespeare utilizes opportunity to incredible impact all through the play so as to help the focuses he made in the Chorus, saying that destiny interferes in the lives of Romeo and Juliet. The occasions paving the way to the gathering of the sweethearts at Capulets party in Act 1 scene 5 are obviously organized and follow an unmistakable movement, every fortuitous event being connected to the following. This persuades a type of more noteworthy power is cautiously arranging everything that goes on in their lives to guarantee that they meet and experience passionate feelings for. This is obviously shown in Act 1 Scene 2 when Romeo, Benvolio and Mercutio happen to chance upon a hireling from the place of Capulet sent to give out gathering solicitations. Once more, this worker simply happens to be unskilled God gi great een. I implore, sir, would you be able to peruse? thus Romeo and his companions figure out how to fool the hireling into accepting their names are on their rundown and ea ch get welcomes. This scene likewise has a specific measure of emotional incongruity in it as Romeo answers to the hirelings question by saying Ay, mine own fortune is my wretchedness. He is obviously alluding to the pathetic love he experiences. In any case, we as a group of people take this bit of discourse to have two implications, the second being that destiny and horrible luck will prompt his hopelessness, which is valid as it is destiny that prompts him going gaga for Juliet, which thusly prompts him killing Tybalt and ending it all. Shakespeare is continually helping us to remember the way that Romeo and Juliet are bound to bite the dust. He does this to build the emotional pressure among the crowd, so when something consoling occurs (like the gathering of Romeo and Juliet), we are loaded up with both happiness and fear that something awful will follow. He at that point cunningly figures out how to adjust the two topics of affection rising triumphantly over detest, and destiny directing adorat ion by having the battle scene in Act 3 Scene 1, where Mercutio and Tybalt are both slaughtered succeeding the adoration scene of Romeo and Juliet in Act two Scene 2. Topical Elements in Hamlet EssayFate and chance keep on having an impact in the lives of the darlings after their underlying gathering. On the off chance that Romeo had not caught Juliet talking resoundingly of her affection for him on her gallery in Act 2 Scene 2, he might not have conceded his affections for her so rapidly, and Juliet surely would not have been the first of the two to discuss her feelings had she realized he was tuning in. Young ladies in Elizabethan occasions were considerably more na㠯⠿â ½ve, and filled the role of a submissive, venerating little girl, this expanding their marriage possibilities. Young ladies who expressed their genuine thoughts, particularly when it came to connections supposedly was quick, thus Juliet would not have made the primary move. Be that as it may, conquering her underlying shame, her admission of feelings out loud her to be significantly more open with Romeo and it was her, not he, who proposed the possibility of marriage. This all made their relationship move more rapidly than it would have done. On the off chance that it had been so anyone might hear to create at a characteristic pace, had the sweethearts not been so nonsensical, the lamentable occasions that followed might not have occurred. It is this that makes many imagine that Romeo and Juliet were answerable for their own demise. On the off chance that they had not been so reckless, Romeo would not have been expelled which added to their demise. Monk Laurence fears that the sweethearts foolishness could be harming to their relationship from the beginning. In Act 2 Scene 3, He utilizes a bloom to clarify how love can be both a toxic substance and a medication Within the newborn child skin of this feeble blossom, Poison hath home, and medication power. He says that man must adjust effortlessness and impolite will or there could be desperate results, (in Romeo and Juliets case, demise). He cautions Romeo of this, however destiny is the more prominent power and the Friar can not convince the Lovers to show less flurry. Destiny substantiates herself to interfere in the sweethearts lives until the purpose of their passing: If Romeo had not met Tybalt on his path home from the place of Capulet in Act 3 Scene 1, they might not have dueled by any stretch of the imagination, and Romeo would not have slaughtered Tybalt bringing about his expulsion. Mercutio, in his withering words in this scene, curses both the places of Capulet and Montague a plague on both your homes (as it was their dueling that prompted his passing). It could well be destiny in this manner, which prompts individuals from the two houses experiencing deprivation, as Mercutio risked everything through reviling the houses. It is likewise an amusing incident that the explanation the letter Friar Laurence sent to Romeo clarifying Juliets evident passing didn't contact him, which brought about his own demise, is on the grounds that the detachment got isolated in a house conveying the plague. On the off chance that Paris had not had any desire to wed Juliet, she would not have expected to take the elixir Friar Laurence offered her to fake her demise, and Romeo would not have thought her dead. Master Capulet additionally pushed the wedding ahead a day. On the off chance that this had not had occurred, Romeo would not have been stunned to know about the passing of his adored one, and in this way would not have visited her in the tomb where he murdered himself. Destiny and fortune undisputedly assumes a pivotal job in the lives everything being equal. Indeed, even a character as little as Paris is influenced by it to the degree that he bites the dust toward the finish of the play. He could have succumbed to any young ladies in Verona, however happened to begin to look all starry eyed at the one young lady who was infatuated with another person, which prompted him guarding Juliets tomb as a characteristic of adoration and regard and Romeo murdering him so as to see his better half in the tomb. Shakespeare additionally does this to feature to the crowd the savagery of the family fight of Montague and Capulet, and to show exactly how much harm the contempt in the public eye can do to blameless individuals. It is the customary references to destiny that support the feeling of emotional strain among the crowd, making the demise of Romeo and Juliet so horrendously sad.

Charles Darwinââ¬â¢s Changing Religious Beliefs Throughout His Life - Literature Essay Samples
The term ââ¬Å"agnosticâ⬠defines as a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God. Many individuals over the course of history have assumed this mindset in place of believing in religion, as they were unable to come to any sort of conclusion regarding the presence of a celestial being. One such person who identified as agnostic was Charles Darwin, the renowned scientist who wrote many highly acclaimed texts on various subjects and did extensive research on the ideas of evolution and natural selection. This was not always his religious stance, however. His life, as portrayed in The Autobiography of Charles Darwin, documents this very idea, particularly the ââ¬Å"Religious Beliefsâ⬠chapter of the book. Many researchers and Darwin enthusiasts have also written scholarly essays on the subject matter. A deep analysis of this text and the essays prove that Charles Darwinââ¬â¢s beliefs changed dramatically over the course of h is life due to many of his findings and contemplations. Charles Darwinââ¬â¢s religious beliefs as a child and young man were extraordinarily different from those of his later life. As a young boy, he grew up a member of the Church of England and even attended an institution of the church. He was not enthused about school work, so Darwinââ¬â¢s father sent him to Edinburgh University in October of 1825, where he studied with his older brother. He went with the intention of pursuing a degree in medicine, but he was not well suited to this career. His father then suggested that he become a clergyman. This shows the true starting point of Darwinââ¬â¢s religious journey. Darwin liked this idea (with the exception of declaring his beliefs in the dogmas of the Church of England) and proceeded to read divine books carefully. He stated in his Autobiography, ââ¬Å"I did not then in the least doubt the strict and literal truth of every word in the Bible, I soon persuaded myself that our creed must be fully acceptedâ⬠(49). He was extre mely devout and considered himself to be well suited for the job. He held the Bible in very high regard and truly believed in the sacred text. He had yet to realize how senseless it was to say that he believed fully in what he later considered to be ââ¬Å"illogicalâ⬠and ââ¬Å"unintelligibleâ⬠(49). In order to pursue his degree, he attended the University of Cambridge. There, he was filled with a zeal for science through his studies of beetles, yet he still didnââ¬â¢t consider a scientific profession and remained deeply religious. Darwinââ¬â¢s journey aboard the HMS Beagle was a crucial component of his religious transition after he left Cambridge University. Though many conclude that he started his voyage with already changed beliefs, this simply was not the case. He was invited to sail with captain Robert Fitz-Roy who was looking for a naturalist to join him on the five-year scientific voyage because of his affinity for traveling and geology. However, Darwin was a devoted orthodox member of the Anglican church, and becoming a clergyman was still a viable option for him. He had not yet gone through any religious shift and was not aware of his future stance on the topic. In fact, according to Frank Burch Brownââ¬â¢s essay entitled The Evolution of Darwinââ¬â¢s Theism, Darwinââ¬â¢s uncle suggested to Darwin that he should be allowed to pursue the voyage on account that ââ¬Å"the enterprise would not in the future be ââ¬Ëin any degree disrespectable to his character as a Clergyman,ââ¬â¢ the pursuit of natural history being ââ¬Ëvery suitable for one of that professionââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (3). With the blessing of his uncle and his father, he heartily embraced the idea of traveling with Fitz-Roy. Brown also raises the point that the idea of uniting a parish ministry with natural science was particularly appealing to Darwin, as it was suggested to him by Reverend John Stevens Henslow. Henslow, an extremely religious man who studied geology and botany, was one of Darwinââ¬â¢s professors at the University of Cambridge, whom he held in extremely high regard. Like Darwin in his younger years, Henslow also believed every word of the Bible to be the truth, despite being a man of science. Clearly, Darwin hardly started his journey believing in anything other than Christianity, and he hardly went for serious scientific purposes. In university, Darwin also found immense satisfaction of the works of William Paley, another highly religious man, who wrote the book Natural Theology. John Hedley Brooke provides some valuable insight into this in his essay, Charles Darwin on Religion. Darwin was engrossed in Paleyââ¬â¢s descriptions of the adaptations of nature in relation to creation. Brooke states that based off of this, it is evident that Darwin truly believed in the idea that nature was made by a divine creator, and it was with this mindset that he began his historic voyage. Darwinââ¬â¢s religious mentality changed drastically upon actually traveling on the Beagle and later while pondering the voyage. In the Autobiography, he described the voyage as ââ¬Å"by far the most important event of my life and has determined my whole careerâ⬠and ââ¬Å"the first real training or education of my mindâ⬠(64). His love for science grew immensely over the five-year trip and he found pleasure in observing and reasoning. His discoveries regarding his opinions on religion, however, were far greater than any others. One such example is pointed out by Brooke in Charles Darwin on Religion, and that is that ââ¬Å"he witnessed a degree of violence and instability in nature that jarred with the stable, ââ¬Å"happy worldâ⬠of William Paleyââ¬â¢s Natural Theologyâ⬠(68). Paleyââ¬â¢s descriptions were once enthralling to Darwin, and to see them disproven was a large step in his journey out of Christianity. On the voyage, he also observed people o f many different nations and their religious beliefs. Seeing this made him contemplate the validity of religions, both the popular and the niche. This intense contemplation of the worldââ¬â¢s religions that he saw on his trip is another key factor in Darwinââ¬â¢s shifting beliefs. Primarily, he began to view the Old Testament as false information. In the Autobiography, he revealed that he often asked himself, ââ¬Å"is it credible that if God were now to make a revelation to the Hindoos, would he permit it to be connected with the belief in Vishnu, Siva, c., as Christianity is connected with the Old Testament,â⬠and said that this idea is ââ¬Å"utterly incredibleâ⬠(71). He continued to reflect and came to realize the incredibility of miracles in relation to the laws of nature, the ignorance of man, and the lack of details and witnesses in Christian gospels. Because of these ideas, Darwin simply could not hold his previous religious beliefs. In the Autobiography, Darwin described the transition as happening very slowly, and in his article Darwin and Religion, John C. Green explains that it is because of the sl owness of the process that Darwin ââ¬Å"never felt that deep anguish of the spirit to which Christianity ministersâ⬠(716). In other words, abandoning Christianity was relatively painless for Darwin, as he had plenty of time to process his actions. In his musings in the Autobiography, Darwin also contemplates the relationship between pain and pleasure in nature, and how that relates to religion. It was a brief, but fundamental observation that aided his transition. He could not see the presence of an omnipresent being in the everyday pain and struggle of certain species. He explained that the organs of animals were developed through natural selection rather than by a creator so that the animals that possess them are able to compete with other beings and increase their numbers. To Darwin, the theory of natural selection provided evidence of adaptation, but removed the idea of design and creation. Darwin revealed that animals choose to pursue life and adaptation through either suffering (pain, hunger, thirst, fear), pleasure (eating and drinking), or both (searching for food). Pleasure serves as a guide to most species for a variety of variables. However, there is still much suffering in the world that isnââ¬â¢t disputed, mo stly occurring in lower species. They often suffer without improvement, and Darwin argued that ââ¬Å"a being so powerful and so full of knowledge as a God who could create the universe, is to our finite minds omnipotent and omniscient, and it revolts our understanding to suppose there be in sufferings of millions of the lower animals throughout almost endless time?â⬠(75) In saying this, he was wondering how God could possibly have created the world with as much suffering that there is. If God were to be prevalent in nature, it would not be like this, as the Bible claims that everything God touches is good. By this time, Darwin was skeptical of religion, but he could not place his faith exactly. His religious transition came to a standstill. He speculated that if all men believed in the same God and method of creation, religion would be more valid. This uniformity is extraordinarily far from the case; however, and that is why forming a conclusion was so difficult for him. He explained that the feeling in his mind that was connected with the idea of God didnââ¬â¢t really differ from sublimity. Darwin also couldnââ¬â¢t comprehend one being having the ability to conceive the universe and every necessity it has. However, he still believed in the existence of some sort of creator. This creator, according to him, would have an intelligent mind similar to that of man. Thus, Darwin labeled himself as a Theist. He thought that religion was a tribal survival strategy; however, he still believed that God is the ultimate lawgiver. This belief was particularly strong when he wrote Origin of Sp ecies, but it fluctuated greatly and eventually became weaker. The idea of Theism was not quite right for Darwin, however, and his beliefs shifted farther. A question was aroused in his mind: ââ¬Å"can the mind of man, which has, as I fully believe, been developed from a mind as low as that possessed by the lowest animal be trusted when it draws such grand conclusions?â⬠(77) This question is a profound one, and Darwin simply did not have a concrete answer. He explicitly stated in the Autobiography, ââ¬Å"I cannot pretend to throw the least light on such abstruse problems. The mystery of the beginning of all things in insoluble by us; and I for one must be content to remain an Agnosticâ⬠(78). He had his beliefs on why Christianity isnââ¬â¢t superior, most of which revolved around the fact that he could not comment on many profound questions regarding the existence of a supreme power. According to scholar Howard Gruber, Darwin became a complete agnostic in 1840. With his new conclusion in mind, Darwin pondered his status and examined how it affected himself and the world around him. He stated that a man who does not believe in God has complete control of his life and can follow whatever impulses he pleases. People, unlike animals, analyze and compare their feelings, desires, and recollections. It is crucial for them to find which of these will provide the highest amount of satisfaction. He went on to say that if they behave for the good of others, they will gain love and approbation which he deemed as the highest pleasure on earth. Sometimes reason tells humans to act in opposition to the opinions of others, which will cause them to lack approbation, but will then gain them the satisfaction of knowing that they pursued their own desires. Darwin himself followed the procedure of acting in opposition, and had no regrets in devoting his life to science. Through analyzing his life, the grand nature of Charles Darwinââ¬â¢s religious shift becomes evident. He started his childhood and early adult life as a deeply religious being, progressed to becoming a Theist, and eventually proclaimed himself an agnostic. His voyage on the HMS Beagle was a truly eye-opening experience for him, and his accounts in the Autobiography allow for a unique perspective of his own opinions of the transition. Although his religious stance was an unpopular one for his time, Darwinââ¬â¢s agnostic beliefs were vastly beneficial to the fields of science, psychology, and sociology. He was able to make critical discoveries regarding the topics of natural selection, the origin of life, and evolution without the mental and physical obstacle of religion. The insight provided from this work was invaluable to the progression of science and life on Earth. The entire human population is indebted to Charles Darwin for his work and his audaciousness in converting out of religion.

Understanding the Bible Belt in the United States
When American geographers map rates of religious belief and regular attendance at places of worship, a distinct region of religiosity appears on the map of the United States. This region is known as the Bible Belt, and while it can be measured in a variety of ways, it tends to include much of the American South.à First Use of Bible Belt The term Bible Belt was first used by the American writer and satirist H.L. Menckenà in 1925 when he was reporting on the Scopes Monkey Trial which took place in Dayton, Tennessee. Mencken was writing for the Baltimore Sunà and used the term in a derogatory way, referring to the region in subsequent pieces with such quotes as the Bible and Hookworm Belt and Jackson, Mississippi in the heart of the Bible and Lynching Belt.à Defining The Bible Belt The term gained popularity and began to be used to name the region of the southern U.S. states in the popular media and in academia. In 1948, the Saturday Evening Postà named Oklahoma City the capital of the Bible Belt. In 1961, geographer Wilbur Zelinsky, a student of Carl Sauer, defined the region of the Bible Belt as one in which Southern Baptists, Methodists, and evangelical Christians were the predominant religious group. Thus, Zelinsky defined the Bible Belt as a region stretching from West Virginia and southern Virginia to southern Missouri in the north to Texas and northern Florida in the south. The region that Zelinsky outlined did not include Southern Louisiana due to its preponderance of Catholics, nor central and southern Florida due to its diverse demographics, nor South Texas with its large Hispanic (and thus Catholic or Protestant) population.à History of the Bible Belt The region known as the Bible Belt today was in the 17th and 18th centuries a center of Anglican (or Episcopalian) beliefs. In the late 18th century and into the 19th century, Baptist denominations, especially Southern Baptist, began to gain in popularity. By the 20th century, evangelical Protestantism could be the defining belief system in the region known as the Bible Belt.à In 1978, geographer Stephen Tweedie of Oklahoma State University published the definitive article about the Bible Belt, Viewing the Bible Belt, in theà Journal of Popular Culture.à In that article, Tweedie mapped Sunday television watching habits for five leading evangelical religious television programs. His map of the Bible Belt expanded the region defined by Zelinsky and included a region that encompassed the Dakotas, Nebraska, and Kansas. But his research also broke the Bible Belt into two core regions, a western region and an eastern region. Tweedies western Bible Belt was focused on a core that extended from Little Rock, Arkansas to Tulsa, Oklahoma. His eastern Bible Belt was focused on a core that included the major population centers of Virginia and North Carolina. Tweedie identified secondary core regions surrounding Dallas and Wichita Falls, Kansas to Lawton, Oklahoma.à Tweedie suggested that Oklahoma City was the buckle or capital of the Bible Belt but many other commentators and researchers have suggested other locations. It was H.L. Mencken who first suggested that Jackson, Mississippi was the capital of the Bible Belt. Other suggested capitals or buckles (in addition to the cores identified by Tweedie) include Abilene, Texas; Lynchburg, Virginia; Nashville, Tennessee; Memphis, Tennessee; Springfield, Missouri; and Charlotte, North Carolina.à The Bible Belt Today Studies of religious identity in the United States continually point to the southern states as an enduring Bible Belt. In a 2011 survey by Gallup, the organization found Mississippi to be the state containing the highest percentage of very religious Americans. In Mississippi, 59 percent of residents were identified as being very religious. With the exception of number two Utah, all of the states in the top ten are states commonly identified as being part of the Bible Belt. (The top 10 were: Mississippi, Utah, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, South Carolina, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, and Oklahoma.)à The Un-Bible Belts On the other hand, Gallup and others have pointed out that the opposite of the Bible Belt, perhaps an Unchurched Belt or a Secular Belt, exists in the Pacific Northwest and the northeastern United States. Gallups survey found that a mere 23 percent of Vermont residents are considered to be very religious. The 11 states (due to the tie for tenth place) that are home for the least religious Americans are Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Alaska, Oregon, Nevada, Washington, Connecticut, New York, and Rhode Island.à Politics and Society in the Bible Belt Many commentators have pointed out that while religious observance in the Bible Belt is high, it is a region of a variety of social issues. Educational attainment and college graduation rates in the Bible Belt are among the lowest in the United States. Cardiovascular and heart disease, obesity, homicide, teenage pregnancy, and sexually transmitted infections are among the highest rates in the nation.à At the same time, the region is known for its conservative values, and the region is often considered to be a politically conservative region. The red states within the Bible Belt traditionally support Republican candidates for state and federal office. Alabama, Mississippi, Kansas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas have consistently pledged their electoral college votes to the Republican candidate for president in each presidential election since 1980. Other Bible Belt states usually vote Republican, but candidates such as Bill Clinton from Arkansas have sometimes swayed the votes in Bible Belt states.à In 2010,à Matthew Zook and Mark Graham utilized online place name data to identify the preponderance of the word church locally. What resulted is a map that is a good approximation of the Bible Belt as defined by Tweedie and extending into the Dakotas. Other Belts in America Other Bible Belt-style regions have been named in the United States. The Rust Belt of the former industrial heartland of America is one such region. Other belts include the Corn Belt, Snow Belt, and Sunbelt.
